Decks

If your like most homeowners, your deck is the perfect place for family & friends to gather. Whether you hosting a BBQ with a large group or simply enjoying a cup of coffee and the morning paper. A natural wood deck is the perfect place to create memories for a lifetime.? The following information will show you how J. W. Graham’s deck staining process will protect your investment for years to come.

Like I love to say, the preparation is the key to a beautiful long lasting project, especially decks.? Of course a wood deck can experience the worst mother nature has to offer.? My grandfather and father instilled in us the importance of doing the job right the first time and using ONLY the top of the line products.

Remember the “clean, dull & dry” rule from my previous blog?? Well the same rule applies here.? After removing all the contents of the deck, we lightly hand sand all surfaces of your deck to remove any splinters, burrs, etc.

At this point the pressure washing begins.? We gently wet the surface then apply the cleaning agent.? Stubborn stains, mildew, algae and grease are scrubbed off, then we rinse.? The deck is then allowed to dry over several days until moisture meter readings confirm that the fibers within the wood are thoroughly dry.

Now comes time for product application.? If you prefer the natural wood look, we recommend using Benjamin Moore’s Arborcoat line of stains, specifically the Transparent Deck and Siding Satin (637).?? This product provides the following benefits……….
???? Provides protection without obscuring the grain or texture of the wood
???? Durable finish with color-permanent pigments
???? Formulated to penetrate, protect and beautify wood decking and furniture
???? Provides a mildew-resistant coating
???? Creates a water-repellent coating
???? Scuff-resistant
???? May be applied to new, pressure-treated lumber
???? Ideal for softwoods like cedar and pine
???? Provides superior UV protection when used with Clear Coat (636)
???? Available in six ready mix colors: Natural (10), Redwood (20), Teak (30), Cedar (40), Mahogany (60), Silver Gray (70)

If you prefer a solid body stain or a painted appearance, there are several solid stain choices on the market.
