Preparing for the Interior Painting Season
Preparation is the key to a long lasting and durable paint job.
As the exterior painting season starts to come to a close, J. W. Graham is preparing to commence our interior painting season. Soon we’ll all?start the process of bringing in the?deck furniture, storing the grill and packing away the?golf clubs.?Now is a great time to schedule your interior painting project.
Do you have walls that are faded, dented, stained and crying for a facelift,?but you aren’t sure where to begin?
We know that hiring a painting contractor and inviting them into your home is an act of trust. Our painters earn the trust of our customers by making sure the interior painting project is completed correctly, promptly and with minimal disruption.
Before we start, you’ll meet the job foreman and the crew who will be working in your home. We will then decide the best place to set up a?dedicated shop for equipment & stock. We will then determine the best place to wash our tools at the end of each workday. We review the job specifications with you before we begin to make sure we understand?exactly what you want.
Preparation is the key to a long lasting and durable paint job. That is why J. W. Graham is a leader in the industry when it comes to preparation.
- Pictures, wall hangings & window treatments are removed from walls and stored in a safe place.
- Furniture is placed in the middle of the room to access walls.
- Floors and carpets are covered using fleece backed canvas drop cloths. Furniture, lighting, etc. are covered using 1.0 mil. polyethylene plastic sheeting. Outlet plates are removed. Baseboards are taped to protect from roller ?over-spray?.
- Walls & ceilings are lightly sanded then cleaned. Loose and failing paint is removed. Holes & cracks are plastered. In some cases where severe cracks are present, cracks are opened then bridged with 3″ fiberglass mesh tape. Mesh tape is then bonded to the surface using Weldo-Bond brand adhesive then plastered to match surrounding surface. This procedure prevents further cracking.
- Once preparation is complete, we will then apply one full coat of primer sealer to walls & ceilings. In most cases, we will ?tint? the primer to closely match the finish color insure perfect coverage.
- Once primer is thoroughly dry, we will apply one full coat of finish paint.
- Painted woodwork is lightly sanded then wash with a solution of warm water and TSP (tri-sodium phosphate), then clear water rinsed. Bare wood is spot primed with KILZ brand primer sealer followed by two full coats of semi-gloss trim paint.
- When paint is dry, uncover furnishings and floors. Vacuum carpets & wash floors. Replace room contents to original location.
The result of this process: a pleasant experience and a beautiful paint job to enjoy for years to come.
Each painting project is handled as it?s own. From commencement to completion a full crew will always be onsite. Being a true?family business, a Vitello is present on every job. It is our goal to gain you as a customer for life.
As we always say “we love what we do and you will too“!
