Adding POP to a Project

Below is a small sample of what we’ve been up to lately. We recently completed the painting and decorating of the chapel at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Somerville Massachusetts. After completion, we quickly noticed that the rounded Sanctuary (Altar) wall was in need of “pop”.

The parish business manager did some research and discovered a book from 1981 celebrating St. Ann?s Centennial launching the opening of the Church. In it, there was a black & white photo of the chapel sanctuary that we agreed to duplicate in keeping with its historical integrity. The rounded sanctuary wall was made up of several floor-to-ceiling panels. Once the layout of these panels was complete we framed each panel with a 4-inch band of gold.

A stencil, taken from the original layout, was fabricated and applied to the surface of the gold frame and treated with a deep bottle green, also taken from the original color scheme. At this point, we applied a faux color wash to the interior of each panel duplicating an Italian Botticino marble effect.

Though the work took several weeks to complete, the final product was nothing short of stunning. In any church or house of worship, we at J.W.
